Sudbury and District Health Unit Tetanus Clinic The Sudbury & District Health Unit works locally with individuals, families, the community and partner agencies to promote and protect health and to prevent disease. Public health programs and services are geared toward people of all ages and are delivered in a variety of settings including workplaces, day care and educational settings, homes, health care settings and community spaces.
Adults need a booster for tetanus and diphtheria every 10 years.
Tetanus bacteria can enter your body through a cut when you garden or work in soil and cause "lockjaw". Lockjaw is an infection that causes painful muscle spasms and breathing failure, which leads to death in 20 to 50% of cases. Wear shoes and gloves when gardening and get your tetanus booster.
